PAN Card Photo and Signature Size Requirements (2026)

Applying for a new PAN card or correcting details on an existing one? NSDL and UTIITSL both require your photo and signature to meet specific size and format requirements. Get them wrong and your application gets rejected. This guide covers everything you need to know.

File FormatJPEG / JPG
File Size2 KB to 100 KB

Ink ColourBlack or dark blue

Sign on a blank white paper with a dark pen, photograph or scan it, and then crop to the required dimensions. Avoid using a pencil or light-coloured ink as the signature may not be visible after compression.

Common Mistakes That Cause Rejection

  • Photo too dark or overexposed — Take the photo in natural daylight near a window. Avoid using flash directly on the face.
  • Signature on lined paper — The lines show up in the scanned image and can cause rejection. Always use a plain white sheet.
  • Wrong aspect ratio — The PAN photo is wider than tall (landscape-ish), unlike a passport photo. Cropping a passport photo will distort it.
  • File too large — Phone cameras produce files of 3-5 MB. You need to compress to under 100KB while maintaining clarity.
  • Wearing dark glasses — Prescription glasses are fine, but tinted lenses or sunglasses are not allowed. Eyes must be clearly visible.

How to Create PAN Card Photos with Toolkiya

  1. Open the tool — Visit Toolkiya PAN Card Photo Tool in any browser on your phone or computer.
  2. Upload your photo — The tool shows you the correct crop area for PAN card dimensions. Adjust the frame so your face fills the recommended zone.
  3. Upload your signature — Photograph your signature on white paper, upload it, and the tool crops and resizes it automatically.
  4. Download both files — Get perfectly sized JPEG files under 100KB, ready to upload to the NSDL or UTIITSL portal.

Everything happens in your browser. Your photos and signature never leave your device.

Physical vs e-PAN Card

Since 2020, the Income Tax Department issues an e-PAN as a PDF document linked to your Aadhaar. The photo requirements for e-PAN applications are identical to physical PAN cards. If you need help with Aadhaar photo specifications, refer to our Aadhaar photo size guide.
