How the PDF Editor Works

When you open a PDF in Toolkiya's editor, the file is parsed entirely inside your browser using pdf.js to render each page as a canvas layer. On top of that canvas, an editable overlay lets you add text boxes, images, shapes, highlights, and freehand annotations. When you save, the original PDF's object tree is rewritten with your additions merged into the page content streams, preserving fonts, vector graphics, and existing form fields.

Because the editor works on the raw PDF structure rather than a flattened image, your output remains searchable and selectable. No file ever leaves your device — every render, edit, and export step happens in JavaScript memory, and the final PDF is generated as a downloadable blob.

When to Use the PDF Editor

Filling out application forms that aren't true fillable PDFs. Signing contracts with a typed or drawn signature. Redacting sensitive details before sharing a bank statement. Adding notes to a research paper or textbook. Correcting typos in an invoice without going back to the source document. Inserting a logo or stamp on letterheads. Marking up architectural plans or design proofs for review.

Why Edit PDFs on Toolkiya

Most online PDF editors upload your document to a server, process it, and email you a download link — meaning your contracts, IDs, and financial documents pass through someone else's infrastructure. Toolkiya runs everything in your browser, so a signed NDA or a redacted Aadhaar copy never leaves your machine.

There is no signup, no watermark on the output, and no daily edit limit. Files of any size are supported as long as your device has the RAM to hold them, and edits work offline once the page has loaded.

Tips for Editing PDFs

Zoom in before placing text so alignment matches existing content. Match the font family to the document — Helvetica and Times New Roman cover most printed forms. Use the redact tool (solid black rectangle) instead of white-out for legal documents, since white text can be copy-pasted back. Flatten annotations before sharing if you don't want recipients to move or delete them.
