How the Phone Document Scanner Works

Toolkiya's Phone Scanner pairs your phone's camera with your laptop browser over a direct WebRTC connection. Open the scanner on your laptop, scan the QR code with your phone, and the phone's rear camera activates with a document alignment guide. Each time you capture a page, the image is sent directly to your laptop in real time.

On the laptop side, you can rotate pages, adjust brightness and contrast, reorder them, and export in multiple formats — PDF, JPG, PNG, ZIP archive, or a combined long image. The entire flow is peer-to-peer: your scanned documents never touch any server.

When to Use Phone Document Scanner

Digitizing paper documents, receipts, and contracts for archival or email. Scanning multi-page forms or agreements into a single PDF. Creating digital copies of handwritten notes and whiteboard photos. Preparing document submissions for government portals that require PDF uploads. Scanning business cards, letters, and printed materials while traveling.

Why Use Toolkiya Instead of CamScanner

CamScanner requires installing a mobile app, pushes a premium subscription for features like OCR and watermark removal, and uploads your scans to their cloud servers. Toolkiya's scanner is completely browser-based — no app install on either device, no account, no watermarks, and documents never leave your devices.

You get multi-format export (PDF, images, ZIP), per-page editing (rotate, brightness, contrast), page reordering, and the ability to send the exported file directly to another device via QR code. All for free, with no daily limits.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Toolkiya's phone scanner work?

Open Phone Scanner on your laptop. It shows a 6-character code and a QR. Scan the QR with your phone — the phone's back camera opens, and every photo you snap is sent instantly to your laptop. When you're done, export as PDF, images, or ZIP.

Is this better than CamScanner?

For most use cases, yes — Toolkiya is free with no watermarks, no account, no ads inside the scanning flow, and the documents never leave your devices. CamScanner is an app install, pushes a subscription, and uploads scans to their servers. Toolkiya runs entirely in browser-to-browser WebRTC.

Can I scan multi-page documents?

Yes. Keep tapping 'Capture' on the phone — each page shows up on your laptop in order. You can rotate, adjust brightness/contrast, and reorder pages before exporting as PDF, individual images, or a ZIP.

Are my scanned documents private?

Completely. Every photo travels directly from your phone to your laptop over an encrypted WebRTC data channel. Toolkiya's servers never see the content. Even the ephemeral room code is discarded when you close the tab.

What export formats are supported?

PDF (all pages combined), individual JPG/PNG images, ZIP archive of all pages, or a single combined long image. You can also send the export directly to your phone via QR code.
