How Adding a Watermark Works
When you upload a photo, Toolkiya draws it onto an HTML canvas and overlays your chosen watermark — either rendered text using the Canvas 2D text API or another image drawn with adjustable opacity, rotation, and blend mode. You control position (corner, center, tiled across the whole image), font, color, size, and transparency, and a live preview reflects each change immediately.
When you export, the canvas is flattened into a new JPEG, PNG, or WebP at the original resolution. The watermark becomes part of the pixel data — there is no separate layer that can be peeled off without re-editing the image. The entire pipeline runs in JavaScript; the original photo and watermark image stay in browser memory.
When to Add a Watermark
Protecting product photos before listing on Instagram, Meesho, or marketplace platforms. Branding portfolio images for photographers, designers, or illustrators. Marking documents as Draft, Confidential, or Sample. Adding a copyright notice to wedding or event photos shared with clients. Tagging memes or graphics with a handle or website URL before posting.
Why Watermark Photos on Toolkiya
Most free watermark tools either add their own logo to your output, limit you to a handful of free photos per day, or — worst case — keep a copy of every photo you upload. Toolkiya runs entirely in your browser, so the original and the watermarked output never leave your device.
There is no signup, no upload queue, and no Toolkiya logo stamped on your work. You can batch-watermark a folder of product photos in one go, save a watermark preset for reuse, and export at the original resolution without re-encoding losses beyond the format you choose.
Tips for Effective Watermarks
Tile a low-opacity (10–20%) watermark across the whole image rather than placing one in a corner — corners are easily cropped off. Use a contrasting color: white with a slight drop shadow works on most photos. Keep the watermark readable but not so loud that it ruins the image. For logo watermarks, use a transparent PNG so only the mark itself shows.
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of watermarks can I add?▼
You can add text watermarks or image (logo) watermarks. Text watermarks support custom font size, color, opacity, and placement including tiled/repeated mode.
What does the tiled watermark do?▼
The tiled option repeats your watermark text diagonally across the entire image at a 45-degree angle, providing strong protection against unauthorized use.
Are my images uploaded to a server?▼
No. All watermark processing happens locally in your browser. Your images never leave your device.
What output formats are available?▼
You can download the watermarked image as PNG (lossless) or JPG (smaller file size).
